Well, as we all get older we start remembering many of the people we've been associated with over the years. I was only around these guys for about 4 months, but we had a good time. One of the problems with us getting together more often was that we were scattered over 2 or 3 squadrons. Anyway, this is my Nuclear Weapons Class, we graduated in February of 1973 at Lowry AFB, CO. Seems to me that we started on November 1, 1972. But that's foggy.
Let's start at the bottom, that's Roger Bell, he was from Washington State. He was also class leader, seems to me he enlisted for 6 years, so he had 2 stripes and the rest of us had one or none. Roger had a very irreverent sense of humor and a very pretty wife. They lived off base so we didn't see him a lot. Prior to her getting to Denver, Roger and some us had a few really good nights at the old Airman's Club, the big one near the Bowling Alley.
The guy in the light colored shirt on the left is Alan Ryea, hope I spelled his name right. Ryea was a Yankee from somewhere in New England. Being a son of the South, I was surprised that Ryea didn't act like I had heard they would. He was a very serious person, what we would now call "focused". But he wasn't unfriendly, none of them were.
The guy in the middle front with the beer is John Fasbaugh, again hope I got that name right. John was not a serious person, he loved to have fun and he was good at it. John was also a Yankee, from New York State. I think John went to Plattsburgh AFB after tech school.
The guy on the far right in the white jacket is me, Terry Crihfield, I grew up in Memphis and the Southern Ozarks. So being in the big city of Denver was quite an experience for me. I went to FE Warren AFB till 1976, then got out and went to college, then to the St Louis Air Guard in AMMO, and then to the Memphis Air Guard as a Training Manager, getting ready to retire from there, maybe.
Skip back over to the left, the guy with the dark hair and glasses is named Capulli, I think his first name was Francis, (hey, it's been awhile). Loved to party, talked a lot about Arizona, I think he was from Phoenix. if my memory serves me correctly, he went to become an officer. BTW, he about froze his butt off in Denver, I can still remember him griping about the cold. In those days, class started at AM, and we had to walk all the way across Lowry to our school, this was before they moved to he last school building.
The tall guy was my buddy, Ernie Williams, from Painted Post, New York. Ernie was essentially a Hippie in uniform. Very smart, but loved to cut up. Used to pick at me about my accent (what accent?).
Then there was Albertus (Arthur?), probably the most serious of all of us. Not unfriendly, just very serious, wanted out of tech school so he could get on with his career.
I don't remember what happened to Albertus, seems to me that he made a career out the USAF.
Well, there you have it, our instructor was named Lynn Sullins, a staff sergeant, had tons of stories about the far east. Well, if you see these guys tell them to holler at me.
