MSgt (USAF Ret) ROY W. GREEN, age 76 died suddenly on March 31, 2006. Born in Clayton, NJ he was raised in Pitman, NJ and attended Pitman High School. He lived in Pittsgrove, NJ since 1976.
Roy joined the United States Air Force in 1948 and retired in 1969. After his service he worked for Fashion Neckwear of Nashua, NH and retired after 20 years. MSgt. Green was assigned to the 1100th USAF Special Reporting Group in July, 1949. In September, 1949 he was assigned to the 551st Aviation Depot Squadron at Killeen Base, Killeen, Texas. In February, 1952 he moved with the 551st and 510th ADS to Manzano Base in Albuquerque, NM. In December, 1954 he was assigned to the Mechanical and Loading School at Lowry AFB. In March of 1956 then TSgt. Green was assigned to the 5th ADS Sidi Silmane, French Morocco where he was NCOIC Mechanical Section. In February, 1957 he returned to LAFB for Instructor Duty. In July, 1957 he was assigned as NCOIC Production Control at Stony Brook AFS, Mass. In January, 1962 he was assigned as NCOIC Quality Control with the 36th Tactical Fighter Group, 5th TDS in Bitburg, Germany. In December of 1964 hereturned to the United States where he was assigned as NCOIC Mechanical Laboratory at the Air Force Weapons Laboratory, Kirtland AFB, NM. He remained at KAFB until he retired.
Msgt. Green was a member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association, the American Legion and the Nuclear Weapons Technician's Association (www.usafnukes.com). He was active in reunions for a number of his former units. He particularly enjoyed traveling and golf.
He is survived by his wife Doris M., son Roy W. (Susan) , daughter Robin (Michael) Carabrese, grandchildren Stacey Flynn, Jason Green, Melissa Carabrese, brother William Green, sisters Mabel McGinnis, Sarah Johnson, Mildred Mannino, and great grandchildren Cassie, Ryan and Kira Flynn. Predeceased by infant son Robert W. and brother David.
