Donald Engelke, 77, of Belton died April 6 in a Temple hospital. A Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. April 10 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Dick Hudson officiating Burial was in Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple.

Mr. Engelke, born Sept. 12, 1932 in Houston to Gene and Ella (Krumnow) Engleke, grew up in Temple and was a 1950 graduate of Temple High School. His 27-year career in the United States Air Force included world assignments and Offut, Dyess, Carswell, Nellis and Lackland Air Force bases. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. He married Alice Birchall Nov. 4, 1953. After retirement he worked for Strasburger Enterprises and later for Hunter, Inc. in Houston. He served in a variety of community and church-related positions, including the Knights of Columbus, as Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2006. He is survived by two daughters, Jo Ann Mann of Temple and Donna Dees Forney of Belton; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Christ The King Catholic Church CYM Fund or the American Cancer Society. Dossman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
