Herbert L. Fletcher 80 died Dec. 31, 2008 at his Troy home with his loving family with him, following a long illness.
He was born in Fairfield, ME Dec. 7, 1928 the son of Ralph W. and Katrina (Young) Fletcher. He was educated in Burnham schools. Herbert married Angie G. Temple in Burnham on Sept. 3, 1949.
Herbert made a career in the U. S. Air Force serving during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Throughout his military career Herbert worked as an instructor and an assembler of top-secret nuclear weapons. He retired in June of 1972 as a Master Sergeant. After his retirement from the Air Force he returned to school and earned his master electricians license.
Herbert was a member of the Benjamin Berry American Legion Post 50 in Unity. He was the Code Enforcement Officer for the Town of Troy for several years. He was an avid hunter and card player. He enjoyed riding through town on his daily route meeting his friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Angie G Fletcher of Troy, two son and their wives, David and Judy Fletcher and Brian and Linda Fletcher all of Troy, two brothers and their wives, Raymond and Corrine Fletcher of Boynton Beach FL, Robert and Nancy Fletcher of Albion, one sister Bessie Luce of Troy, a sister-in-law Betty Fletcher of Waterville, four grandchildren, Angelina, Thomas, Amber, Justin, two great grandsons, Landon and Chase, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His son Steven, two brothers, Carlton and Lynn, and a sister, “Vic”, predeceased him.
A celebration of Herbert’s life will be conducted 1 to 3 PM Sunday January 4, 2009 at the Nightdrifters Snowmobile Club in Detroit. A graveside service with Military Honors will be conducted in the spring at the Rogers Cemetery in Troy. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center 34 High St. Newport.
