John Robert "Bob" Jones, 88. of Cheyenne, died Jan. 28 at the Davis Hospice Center. His last days he was surrounded by his wife, sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jones was born Sept. 1, 1920, in Dunmore. Penn., and had lived here since 1969. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force. He retired in 1972 from the 90th MMS as the Nuclear Weapons Superintendent. Mr. Jones was the maintenance crew chief of the Air Force's first B-29 aircraft and was an aerial gunner expert. He fought in the East Indies, Air Combat India Burma, India Burma China, and Air Offensive Japan. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, American Theater Service Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores A. "Billie" (Kinderknecht) Jones, whom he married Oct. 7, 1943 in Hays, Kan.; three sons, Herbert Jones of Clarksville, Tenn., and James R. Jones and Ronald P. Jones, both of Cheyenne; eight-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert L. and Elizabeth (Baker) Jones.
