ROBERT G. (SARGE) KLINE May 16, 1924 to June 5, 2004, 80, a 40 yr. resident of Colton died 6 /5/04 at St. Bernardine's Hosp. He was born in Bloomington, PA.
In September of 1942 he answered his country's call to battle by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served as a rifleman using the BAR until 1945. While in the Marines, he was in the 6th Marine Division, and later assigned to the 22nd Marines. He was in many major campaigns; Guadal Canal, Tarawa, Solomon Islands, Mariana Islands, the Marshalls, Enewetoc, and eventually in the Corps' costliest battle of the war Okinawa. While in the Mar ines, he received 2 purple hearts, 3 unit citations, a presidential unit citation, and other awards. He later served in the U.S.A.F. from Dec. 1947 - Nov. 1964.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1964, he worked for 22 years as a mail carrier at the Colton Post Office until his retirement in 1986.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Maria (Belle) Kline, Colton; son Robert W. Kline, San Bdno.; daughter Dolores Diaz of Baldwin Park, CA; brother Jack Kline, Lakewood.
He enjoyed going on overnight trips to Laughlin and the Avi Casino in Nevada, and was also a devoted Sports Watch player at San Manuel in Highland.
