Loyal Collins Madden, 75, of Somers, passed away at home Thursday October 16, 2008 with his wife by his side.

Born in Decatur IL December 25, 1932 to the late Loyal W. and Ruth (Collins) Madden, he grew up there, and entered the U.S. Air Force, where he became a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving his country as a Staff Sergeant as part of S.A.C. (Strategic Air Command).

He then moved to Somers in 1957, and became a very active member of the Somers Congregational Church. Loyal also worked for IBM, retiring after 40 years. He then operated an engraving business “L & M Engraving” in Somers, doing much work for town offices and surrounding businesses.

Loyal was also very active in the Somers community as a leader with the Tolland County 4-H Club; being a charter member of the Northeast two Cylinder Club; a member of the CT Farm Bureau; a member of Scantic Valley Engine Club; on the Board of Directors of both the 4-Town Fair and the CT Fair Assoc. Loyal also founded the 43rd Aviation Flying Club in Hartford. Loyal loved restoring Antique tractors, as well as beekeeping and other interests.

Loyal is survived by his wife of 50 years Marjory Ruth (Blow) Madden of Somers; his four children Michael E. Madden of Westhampton MA, Steven Madden and his wife Janice of Suffield, Susan M. Rabideau and her husband Ken of Apex NC, and Dan Madden and his wife Katherine of Somers; and his four grandchildren Stephanie, Michelle, Madeline, and Gordon.
