George B. Alvord, a lifelong resident of Monroe, NY, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at his home in Monroe. George was 77 years old. Son of the late Raymond and Marie Huet Alvord, he was born December 9, 1934 in West Point, NY. George was the widower of Mary Louise Philip Alvord.
George was a retired Command Sergeant Major with the United States Air Force, McGuire Air Force Base, NJ as well as a retired employee with DHPW of West Point, NY. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during Korea and the Vietnam Wars receiving commendation medals including the Army Good Conduct Medal with One Loop, National Defense Service medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Eight Oak Leaf Clusters along with numerous other medals and citations.
George's studies and knowledge of the buildings and grounds at West Point were instrumental in the preservation and restoration of many of the historic buildings and landmarks.
Survivors include his daughter, Stephanie H. Eiermann of Monroe, NY and his grandchild, Taylor Jade Ann Eiermann.
