Lloyd Douglas Chapman, just Doug to everyone, or 'The Chief' to those he worked for, was a private man. He did not want a wake, he didn't even want an obituary written. However, as one of the founders, lifetime member, and first President of the NWTA, he deserves more than that.
He was born in 1945; enlisted in the Air Force in 1967; retired 31 years later in 1998. He then worked for DTRA for 5 years until 2003, and then finally 'retired'. All his military time, and DoD civilian time was spent supporting the nuclear enterprise.
However, what is not known, was his total support of the NWTA, his behind the scenes work at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. How he helped to clean up many of the Type 3 trainers that were donated there from the 'boneyard' on Kirtland, and his continuing support for that museum. He felt that the service of all the nuclear technicians of every service should be honored by showing the many nuclear munitions that we maintained, and have kept the peace since WWII.
We will miss 'The Chief'.
